“The Lamb”

The Bible begins with a sacrifice and ends with the Lamb in glory. The “lamb thread” runs through the whole Bible. If we think that the use of the lamb as a reminder of Jesus only relates to sacrifice, we will miss a significant part of God’s self-disclosure. Jesus certainly is the “Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world!” But God is making a statement about His nature in the way He refers to His Son. When we read in Philippians 2 that Christ Jesus, in the form of God, did not count His equality with God as something to strive about, it means He wasn’t putting on a show of false humility. Gentleness and humility is THE MIND of Christ Jesus. It is His disposition. He’s not just like a lamb, Jesus is the Lamb. He wasn’t faking it; His lamb-like demeanor is who He is. Out of the 100ish references to lambs in the Bible, 27 of them are in Revelation and refer to Jesus. He really did come to take away the sin of the world and while the cross is His preferred method, just judgment will be complete one of these days as we will see. Developing as followers of Jesus for life means receiving the benefits of His sacrifice and growing in like disposition. Behold the Lamb!
