“Evangelistically Speaking”

A man named Phil Cooke wrote, “I find it interesting (and somewhat sad) that pastors and evangelists have exaggerated so much for so long, that people have actually created a term for it: “evangelistically speaking.” He is right. It’s sad that the people who are entrusted with a message as important as the gospel would use deceptive practices to enhance their image. The subject of evangelism has been taught, maligned, practiced and misused. We really need to return to the simple definition of the word; to evangelize means to proclaim good news. And, we have some good news to proclaim! Jesus Christ has come to give us life rather than death; the forgiveness of sins and a new kind of life is available to anyone who will receive it by faith! Let’s not confuse that or mess it up by adding politics, church growth and other dilutions to the central message. The core value that we are considering at the close of this series is “GO!” People who worship, engage, grow and serve don’t need a lot of pushing to go. When we practice the first four values, the last one comes rather naturally. However, even though we may desire to “go,” we may have fears and concerns. Be encouraged, our going is simply joining hands with the Lord who is already seeking. We don’t have to close any deals or meet any quotas. We simply need to be aware of what God is doing around us and join Him…in our going.
