The Marriage That Lasts

Young love is touching, but enduring love is inspiring. Infatuation often burns out. Some relationships start hot and end bitterly cold. Most people go into marriage with the intent to make it last a long time. Sadly, even among the followers of Jesus, that doesn’t always happen. As a pastor, I’ve been surprised by some relationships that have lasted, but I’ve been more surprised by those that didn’t. They seemed fine at the beginning but little by little, things began to unravel. It’s sad, it breaks my heart every single time. The fall-out of divorce is brutal emotionally, financially and spiritually. Sometimes, it really is the better of the bad options available. Those who have been through divorce often feel like failures, sometimes they feel like “second-class” believers. Regardless of your current status, married, single or in-between, I want to remind you that there is a marriage that will never end because it cannot end. A relationship with Christ is sometimes illustrated by marriage. He is the Groom and believers are His bride. Human relationships can be risky but when we come to Jesus by faith, He enters a covenant relationship with us. He promised to never leave us or forsake us. Nothing can separate us from His love. Our relationship with Him is enduring because it is fully founded on His faithfulness and not on our performance. So, whether you are single, married, divorced, widowed or somewhere in between the options, enter the marriage that lasts. If you have, rejoice that you have something that can never be taken away—Him! He is the Groom that will take you all the way to the Father and keep you forever and ever.
