Remembering has a couple of problems. There are times when we remember and do not remember the whole story. Then there are times we remember, and we add too much darkness or too much on the bright side. I don’t know about you, but when I remember stories of my youth as an athlete, I always seem to be a little better than reality. Or, when I remember being a brat kid, I bring too much ‘woe is me’ to the story. In this week’s message out of 1 Samuel we look at Samuel's final address to the people of Israel as their leader. An address that can only be imagined as humbling, hard, and filled with love. Samuel’s whole life was about bringing these people to the Lord and in a time where they were making a poor decision as a nation, he reminds them reflect on the past. During his message, he calls them to remember. He reminds them of who they are, where they’ve been and how to avoid major bumps. We could all use a little more remembering like this. The beauty of this type of memory is that it can’t change to past, but it can definitely change the future. If we remember the Lord and hold to Him, are future will be set.
